Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has criticised the Indian government over the recent killing of innocent labourers in Kulgam, according to Indian media reports.
Abdullah questioned the Indian government’s security narrative and rejected attempts to link Pakistan with the Kulgam incident without evidence.
“If terrorism has ended, then who is killing the labourers?” Abdullah reportedly asked. He also questioned how the attackers could enter the region if the entire border is under control.
Abdullah further questioned why such incidents occur when demands for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and special status are gaining momentum.
He called for a fair, transparent and impartial investigation into the Kulgam incident instead of what he described as an attempt to cover up the truth.
According to Indian media reports, some National Conference leaders have also raised questions about whether security agencies could be using such incidents to undermine demands for the restoration of statehood.
Abdullah said that if the situation in Kashmir is truly normal, the government should explain why such incidents continue to take place.
