The third International Nuclear Science Olympaid in Jeddah, where Pakistan accomplished a gratified milestone our student received one gold and two silver medals.
The international competition was conducted from August 2 to 8 and was supported by the IAEA to promote excellence in nuclear science. Around 120 young scientists and experts from 19 countries took part in the event, which included participants from China, Japan, Russia, Türkiye, Malaysia, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
Muhammad Ali from Government College University (GCU), Lahore, secured the gold medal for Pakistan, while Muhammad Usman and Seerat Fatima Bhatti won silver medals. Syed Shuja Haider also represented Pakistan at the prestigious competition.
The Pakistani students were selected through the Pakistan Nuclear Science Olympiad (PANSO), an initiative of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) aimed at discovering and supporting young scientific talent.
The International Nuclear Science Olympiad is a major global platform for secondary-school students, providing them an opportunity to showcase their knowledge of nuclear science and explore its peaceful applications.
The achievement highlights Pakistan’s efforts to promote scientific education and encourage young students to pursue careers in science and technology. Officials said the success reflects the dedication and talent of Pakistani students on an international stage.
During the event, Pakistan also received another honour as it was announced that the country will host the fourth International Nuclear Science Olympiad in 2027.
Dr Muhammad Maqsood from the PAEC Directorate of Education and Dr Sajjad Tahir from PIEAS received a commemorative memento marking Pakistan’s selection as the next host nation. The upcoming event is expected to further strengthen international cooperation in nuclear science and education.
