ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly condemned the Houthi attack on a non-military commercial vessel in the Red Sea that killed three Pakistani nationals.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said targeting a commercial vessel puts innocent lives at risk and is a violation of international law.
Dar confirmed that another Pakistani national was injured in the attack. He expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
He said the Houthi attack poses a serious threat to freedom of navigation, maritime security and the safety of commercial vessels operating in the Red Sea.
Dar said Pakistan was in contact with Saudi authorities and Yemen’s internationally recognised government to gather more information and understand the circumstances of the incident.
The deputy prime minister directed the Pakistani Embassy in Riyadh to coordinate with the relevant authorities and take all necessary steps to repatriate the bodies of the Pakistani nationals who were killed.
He also instructed the embassy to provide all possible assistance and support to the injured Pakistani citizen.
Dar said Pakistan was closely monitoring developments related to the Red Sea incident and would remain in contact with the concerned authorities.
“We stand with the families of the deceased Pakistani citizens in their hour of grief,” the deputy prime minister said.
