The nationwide strike by goods transporters has entered its fourth day, with the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance warning the government that the protest could be expanded if their demands are not accepted within two days.
Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan said the federal and Sindh governments do not appear serious about resolving the transporters’ problems. He said the strike would not end on the basis of assurances alone.
Awan said transporters were not on strike by choice but had been forced to protest to get their demands accepted.
He said talks with federal ministers would be held today. He added that transporters would continue their protest even if it took six months to get their demands approved.
Meanwhile, the Edible Oil Association has also announced its support for the transporters’ strike. As a result, the transportation of edible oil across the country has started to face disruptions, putting further pressure on the supply chain.
Transporters said the strike was seriously affecting business activities and the country’s goods transportation system.
According to Malik Shehzad Awan, the ongoing protest is causing losses worth billions of rupees.
The transporters have urged the government to take practical steps to resolve their problems instead of offering only talks and assurances.
The talks between the government and transporters today are being seen as important. If no progress is made, the protest could expand further and disrupt the supply of essential goods in different parts of the country.
